Who is it for?
The Day Skipper preparation week is meant to improve your sailing skills so that you can be better prepared to tackle the RYA Day Skipper course.
We unfortunately see many candidates signing up for the RYA Day Skipper course, but who are still lacking the necessary fundamentals and hence struggle during the course or fail.
With this option, you will not have the stress to achieve a certain standard, so you can build on your existing experience, improve your skills, and become more confident in the maneuvers.
This course is also recommended if you already have your Skipper license, but you feel a bit rusty or not yet ready to charter on your own, and you want to refresh your skills and improve your level.
Day Skipper preparation week – Minimum requirements
– Minimum age: 16 years old
– Basic sailing skills (dinghy or yacht) or active crew member on a yacht
– Basic theory knowledge
Important! This is a practical course, and we will obviously go through many theory elements during the week. Whilst the knowledge of the theory is not a must, it goes without saying that it would help a lot. We recommend that you complete the RYA Day Skipper theory course OR at a minimum the RYA Essential Navigation online course before you join us for the practical week.
And if you just need a book to start studying ahead of the course or refresh your knowledge, you can visit our SHOP and purchase a few items there.
What do you get?
The course will draw on your existing sailing experience and focus on improving those skills, so that you can more confidently sign up for an RYA Day Skipper course afterwards. The course is designed to provide a lot of practice both under sail and under engine so that you build a routine when executing the key maneuvers.
By the end of the week, you will:
– improve your knowledge and confidence in executing the various maneuvers under sail and under power
– understand the basics of a passage plan, taking into account weather and crew safety
– become a more confident sailor, ready to sign up for the RYA Day Skipper course
– have sailed among the most beautiful waters and bays in Croatia
– have made lifelong friends!

Day Skipper preparation course – Program
You will practice all the fundamental maneuvers of running a sailing yacht. Hoisting and dousing sails, reefing, tacking and gybing, anchoring and picking up a buoy. Mooring and leaving a pontoon under engine will also be practiced, so you can get more comfortable with managing a yacht under power.
Depending upon your level, you may take a shot at leading the maneuver to recover a man overboard.
The instructor will follow your progress during the week, provide you with regular feedback, and constantly adapt the program to address any gaps or needs for improvement.
You will spend the week aboard the yacht, visiting many beautiful bays and harbours in Croatia.
With a maximum of 5 students per yacht, your instructors can devote plenty of time to your needs and focus the program on the areas you need most.
IMPORTANT NOTE! this is NOT an RYA course!
There is NO exam and the course does not award any formal qualification.
At the end of the week, there will be a final one-to-one debrief, to review the progress made during the week and any areas where improvements may still be needed.
