RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Shorebased

The RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Shorebased course is an intensive theory course to prepare you for the Coastal Skipper practical and to access the Yachtmaster Coastal/Offshore practical preparation and exam.

This course will guide you to thoroughly master the process of calculating tidal heights for both standard and secondary ports as well as tidal streams. This will be vital to allow you to calculate your estimated position (EP), projected estimated position (PEP) and Course To Steer (CTS) in tidal waters. We will also refresh your knowledge about the ‘rules of the road’ (Colregs), signs and signals, weather and the behaviour and rules to follow in case of restricted visibility. Extensive time will be spent dealing with passage planning, taking into account all of the elements above, weather, and more.
Please note that this course assumes that you already have some theory knowledge, at least at Day Skipper level. The course is intense and there is a lot to study, exercises to be made, etc.
The WHOLE content of this course will be asked during the practical exam for Yachtmaster offshore. Even though this course is not an RYA pre-requirement, we have decided, based on our experienced with past candidates, to make it a compulsory bit of knowledge to participate to our yachtmaster offshore prep and exam week. Without the knowledge included in this course, your chances to pass the yachtmaster exam are very slim, no matter how good a sailor you may be…
