Tidal Miles – Scotland
An amazing opportunity to sail along the beautiful west coast of Scotland, experiencing some strong tidal streams, and visiting picturesque villages and bays. We will be sailing off of Oban, north of Glasgow, and depending upon wind and weather conditions, we will sail North, past the islands of Rum and Eigg and through the Mull of Kintyre, or South, around the islands of Islay and Jura, and visit one or more whisky distilleries….
ย ย ย ย ย ย
You will be sailing onboard an Elan Impression 434, a comfortable yacht, with 3 double cabins and 2 WC, and skippered by our own Chief Instructor, Franco.
ย
With a maximum of 6 people per yacht plus the skipper, there will be plenty of opportunities for you to join in all the activities, take part in the maneuvers, and learn a lot whilst enjoying the beautiful scenery and stopovers.
Tidal miles – Scotland – Program
We will meet at the North Pier in Oban (a couple of hours’ drive from Glasgow airport) on Saturday afternoon, get settled onboard, do the provisioning and then look at the weather forecast and discuss with the skipper the overall plan and program of the week.
But before we go and experience the hospitality of a local pub, we will prepare the passage plan for the next day, taking into account weather, wind and most importantly the tides and tidal streams. Whilst this is not going to be an official course, Franco will be more than happy to introduce you to the calculations and thinking that goes behind a passage plan in tidal waters…
We will leave the marina the next morning, following the plan prepared the evening before, which will take us north or south, depending upon the conditions.
ย ย ย
Please note that this is not an RYA-sanctioned activity, and it is also heavily dependent upon the weather conditions, so the final program for the week may change considerably.
